Participation in the meeting of the Collegium

Recently the Rector of the University Serhii Savchenko and the Director of the Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology Olena Karaman took part in the meeting of the Collegium of the Department of Education and Science of the Luhansk Regional State Administration.

The Collegium was held in the city of Sevevrodonetsk. Theme of the meeting: “Achievements of education in 2017 and the creation of conditions for reforming the education of the Luhansk region.”

The Deputy Head of the Regional State Administration Olga Petrivna Lishik; Head of the Department of Education and Science of the Luhansk Regional State Administration Yuriy Viktorovych Stetsyuk; deputy heads of the cities, district administrations and joint territorial communities for humanitarian and social issues; heads of territorial departments and departments of education; heads of educational institutions of the region; representatives of the educational community.

One of the central ones was the report of the Rector of our University Serhii Viktorovych Savchenko “About training the primary school teachers for work in the conditions of the New Ukrainian School at Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University”.

In his report, Serhii Savchenko noted that for 97 years of existence Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University has always been and remains the leader, initiator and center for the implementation of educational reforms. Now the University has become an experimental platform for the introduction of the concept of the New Ukrainian School in the region.

The New Ukrainian School united the University with all the subjects of the educational process in Ukraine and Luhansk – the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Institute for Modernization of Educational Content, the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, the Department of Education and Science of Luhansk Regional State Administration, Luhansk Regional Institute of Postgraduate Education as well as institutions of general secondary and higher education. Thanking to it Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University became an active participant in the implementation of Conception of New School at all stages – from the scientific justification to the practical implementation of the training of teachers, in particular the primary school, which will be the first to implement the concept of the “New Ukrainian School” from September 1, 2018.

So, back in 2015-2016 academic year, doctors of science, professors of the Educational and Research Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology Vitalina Kizilova and Olena Linnik were included in the Scientific and Methodological Council of the Ministry of Education and Science on the development of the State Higher Education Standard, specializing in 013 Primary Education. In addition, they were involved in the development of a new State Primary Education Standard, which was approved recently, at the end of February 2018.

Already in February 2018, the Associate Professor of the Preschool and Primary Education Department Lyudmyla Varyanytsia received training as part of a training seminar on the training of trainers to improve the qualifications of primary school teachers in accordance with the concept of the “New Ukrainian School” on the basis of Luhansk Regional Institute of Postgraduate Education and received certificates.

Now Lyudmyla Varyanytsia already as a coach together with the Starobilsk District Methodical Cabinet is introducing the training program to improve the skills of teachers and deputy directors of primary schools in the Starobilsk district to work in the conditions of the New Ukrainian School on the basis of new State Primary Education Standards. Seminars-trainings are held weekly and reveal the key ideas of the Concept of the New School.

Simultaneously, the implementation of the training program is also carried out during the training of senior students majoring in “Primary Education” of the Educational and Research Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology.

Students are sent to the pedagogical practice in the schools of the region, and they participate in the pilot project and work on the new primary education standards.

Thus, Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University is the direct initiator, developer and participant of the key reform of the Ministry of Education and Science – the New Ukrainian School, whose goal is to create a school where it will be pleasant to learn and which will give students not only knowledge but also the possibility to form competencies and the ability to apply them throughout life for personal and professional self-realization.
