The Academic Council Meeting

The general meeting of the Academic Council and the conference of the university staff was held at Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University.

Three main issues were on the agenda:

  • Report of the Rector of the State Institution “Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University”.
  • Celebration of the 97th anniversary of the University foundation.
  • Conferring the honorary title “Honorary Professor of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University” and rewarding with “Honorary Diploma of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University”.

Vitalii Kurylo, Chairman of the Supervisory Council of LTSNU, congratulated teachers, employees and students on the video message.

The event was attended by the chairman of the Starobilsk District State Administration Anatolii Garkavy and the head of the territorial development department of the Starobilsk City Council Olga Kvitko. The guests congratulated the audience on the University Day and thanked the staff of the educational institution for their contribution to the development of the scientific and educational potential of the region.

In the annual report the Rector of the State Institution “Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University” Serhii Savchenko noted that the admission at the University in 2017 was carried out by the basic educational institution and its six separate subdivisions across all educational levels, as well as the educational and scientific degree of Doctor of Philosophy and the degree of Doctor of Science. A special role in the vocational orientation and admission campaign 2017 was played by the educational center “Donbas-Ukraine”.

In 2017, the information support of the educational process improved. The structure of information resources of the University contains three centers of distance learning; “Electronic University”, Internet radio “University Wave”; six developed and implemented web services, online services, portals; 780 computer workstations with access to the Internet, including 395 in the dormitories; 35 thousand copies of the general book fund; 1700 entries in the electronic catalog; 7112 created electronic textbooks.

In 2017, five agreements were signed with the universities of China, Poland, Georgia, Kazakhstan on cooperation in the field of educational, scientific, cultural activities and the implementation of specific scientific projects. Now Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University is a member of four international associations and associations.

The development of student self-government at the university, in institutes and faculties is gaining momentum. Student self-government of the University took part in the visit on the experience exchange in the Ivano-Frankivsk region in order to study the best practices in the implementation of community development projects; exchange of experience in the Vinnitsa region within the framework of the UNDP Project “Restoration of governance and reconciliation in conflict-affected communities of Ukraine”; study visit for the experience exchange in the Czech Republic. Two leaders of student self-government of the University took part in the II Forum of Leaders of Student Self-Government; the best representatives of self-government bodies became participants of the All-Ukrainian Forum “Students are the Avant-garde of the State”; All-Ukrainian forum “StudentAction – effective student organizations”, the National Student Forum, which was timed to the 25th anniversary of the bodies of student self-government, etc.

Among miscellaneous, scientific publications were recommended for publication; curricula and themes of dissertations for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy were approved.

The Academic Council approved the candidacy of Doctor of Philology Artem Galych for participation in the competition for a scholarship of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine for young scientists for 2018-2020.

At a meeting of the Academic Council, it was decided to award honorary titles and awards. The title “The best student of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University” was awarded to the master student of the Educational and Research Institute of Commerce, Serving Technologies and Tourism Olena Voronova.

The title of “Honorary Professor of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University” was conferred to the Associate Professor of the Department of Landscape Gardening and Ecology Serhii Petrenko; Associate Professor of the Pedagogy Department, Chairman of the Commission for Social and Humanitarian Work of the University Iryna Koteneva; Professor of the Department of Musical Art and Choreography Lyudmyla Sbitneva.

The Honorary Diplomas of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University were awarded to the head of the Department of Romance and Germanic Philology Svitlana Shekhavtsova and Associate Professor of the Social Pedagogy Department, executive secretary of the Admission Committee Yaroslava Yurkiv for conscientious work, high professionalism, high-quality training of specialists, significant personal contribution to the development of national education, significant achievements in the organization of educational activities and on the occasion of the 97th anniversary of the University Day.

On the University Day, diplomas of masters were awarded to graduates of various specialties. Among them was a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Mozharivsky.

The Honorary Badge “Excellent Worker of Education of Ukraine” was presented to the Deputy Director for Social and Humanitarian Work of the Educational and Research Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology Vira Pushko.

Also, teachers and employees were awarded with certificates and thanks of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, certificates of the Starobilsk District State Administration, the Starobilsk City Council, the Luhansk Regional Trade Union Organization, the Luhansk Regional State Administration, the Department of Education and Science, and Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University.
