Basketball tournament

On February 17, the 20th basketball tournament dedicated to the Day of Soldiers-Internationalists was held in the city of Starobilsk.

Eight teams fought for an honorable trophy. The basketball players from Severodonetsk, Lysychansk, Troitske, two teams from Novopskov and three teams from Starobelsk came to the tournament, one of which was the team of our University led by the supporter of this game, the teacher of Starobilsk Humanitarian and Pedagogical College Eugen Reshetilo. Together with him, students of IPES Vitalii Kondratenko, Dmytro Karpenko, Ivan Orlov, Oleksandr Kava and our future student Oleksandr Kulachka went out to defend the university sporting honor. For some unknown reason, the representative of the IPES Andrii Ukraintsev did not attend the games. It was a loss for the team, because Andrii’s presence in the team could have changed the final result in the tournament.

The tournament started with matches in groups. In our group, our team confidently held two matches and achieved victories. First, they beat the basketball players from Novopskov with a score of 39:28, and then the team from Troitske with a score at 48:33. The main rival in the group was the team of Lysychansk, who also outplayed these teams.

The match for the first place in the group. The winner plays with the winner of the other group for the first place. And the teams that took second place in the groups compete for the third place. Our main rival in the group  is Lysychansk team. Its players came to the tournament with a well-balanced team and with a long bench. They played faster basketball, often used substitutions to maintain a high pace of the game. Our boys tried to confront the opponent and in the first quarter lost only two points. Especially Vitalii Kondratenko, who led the team and accurate ball throws in the basket of the opponent, completed the attack. Before the final quarter, the rival was leading 38-31. A little bit was not enough for our basketball players. The game finished with a score of 42:36 in favor of Lysychansk team.

In the match for the third place, LTSNU played against the local “Elevator” and won with a score of 34:20. The guests of the tournament Severodonetsk – Lysychansk played for the main trophy, and the score was 63:40.
