“Poetry of the Peoples of the World”

Today Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University hosted the regional contest “Poetry of the Peoples of the World”.

In the context of broad international relations with foreign countries, the role of skills in speaking skills, communication skills of students and enriching their vocabulary increases. That is why the Department of Romance and Germanic Philology of the Faculty of Foreign Languages of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University organized the regional creative contest “Poetry of the Peoples of the World” in order to identify creative youth who have the potential and ability to learn foreign languages, develop multicultural values and aesthetic education.

According to the organizers, the idea of holding the event arose in connection with the proclamation by the President of Ukraine of the year of the English language and the year of the German language. Teachers of the Faculty of Foreign Languages organized a large number of interesting events, but large-scale contests that contribute to the study of Romance-Germanic languages in the mainstream of cooperation between universities and secondary education institutions have not yet been held.

Therefore, the idea of organizing a regional creative competition arose at the Department of Romance-Germanic Philology, because the knowledge of a foreign language is also the ability to use it in the process of intercultural communication. This event is held in the Luhansk region for the first time; and as the results show, it quickly gained popularity among schools.

About 90 students of the 9-11 grades of various secondary education institutions took part in the competition. An obligatory condition for the participants was the recitation of the poem in a foreign language of the Romance-Germanic group. The talented young people have previously applied. On January 26 they came to our University to read poetry and demonstrate knowledge of a foreign language.

Participants worked in four sections of the qualifying round; after that, the best students were chosen to perform in the finals.

The contestants were evaluated by the competent jury, which included: Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work of LTSNU, Candidate of Historical Sciences Oleksandr Babichev; Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work, Doctor of Medical Sciences Olena Klimochkina; Dean of the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Social Communications, Candidate of Philology Tetiana Pinchuk;, head of the Department of Romance-Germanic Philology, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences Svitlana Shekhavtsova; Candidate of Philological Sciences Iryna Migovich; Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences S.E. Pevna, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences V.E. Sergeeva and senior lecturer L.A. Okun’kova.

After the final speeches of the students, the jury members put up grades and selected the best participants. Winners were awarded with certificates and valuable prizes. In addition, the schoolteachers who made efforts to prepare the youth were awarded with the gratitude.
