International Volunteer Day
5.12.2017
Today the International Volunteer Day is celebrated worldwide.
Volunteering is one of the most difficult in modern society. Every day thousands of philanthropists around the world are making efforts and helping the needy. The role of volunteers in Ukraine has increased especially in recent years, when the state has to prove its right to a free and democratic existence.
Having united efforts in 2014, the Ukrainians began to defend European values and became an example of unity and courage. It was then that volunteer activity took on a large scale, and benefactors became a life-giving spark for servicemen.
Students of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University are active participants in socially significant projects. This year, the volunteer squad “Zabota” resumed its activity, the participants of which already held the first action dedicated to the World AIDS Day. As a symbol of solidarity with HIV-positive and sick persons, volunteers presented a red ribbon to university teachers and students.
Today the volunteer detachment continues its activity, uniting a growing number of not indifferent students with a common goal. The head of the Student Social Service Department E.O. Dukhova, who heads the youth, emphasizes that the activists have many plans. In particular, students are preparing for the celebration of St. Nicholas Day.
Recognizing the contribution of volunteers to the development of modern society, the Starobilsk District State Administration hosted the awarding of philanthropists in the district. Representatives of the district and city councils, as well as the deputy chairman of the District State Administration, addressed those present with greeting words.
Gratitude for the active civil position, patriotism, personal volunteer activity for the benefit of the society were awarded to LTSNU students who are members of the “Zabota” squad.
Volunteering for many people is a matter and a call of soul and heart. The movement received a great public and state recognition, which manifested itself in high confidence ratings, state and non-state awards.
