International Day of Persons with Disabilities
4.12.2017
On December 3, we celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
This day is not a holiday, it is called upon to draw attention to the problems of people with disabilities, to protect their rights, dignity and well-being, to focus society’s attention on the benefits it derives from the participation of people with disabilities in political, social, economic and cultural life.
Every year in Starobilsk district a number of events are held, timed for the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. For example, the Department of Social Rehabilitation of Disabled Children and Children at the Risk of the Municipal Institution “Starobilsk Territorial Center for Social Services (Provision of Social Services)” and the Starobilsk District House of Children and Youth Creativity on the basis of the Starobilsk Taras Shevchenko District House of Culture organized a holiday “By the Road of Kindness” for children with disabilities, in which Oleksandr Evsyukov, a third-year student majoring in “Social Work” of the Educational and Research Institute of History, International Relations and Socio-Political Sciences, took part. Oleksandr acted as one of the leading animators of the holiday.
On the stage, there was a fascinating action. The collective of the Starobilsk district House of Creativity of Children and Youth created wonderful theatrical choreographic performances; funny children’s songs sounded. Leading animators attracted children with disabilities and their parents to participate in various games, contests, and made interesting puzzles.
Children with disabilities received sweet gifts and soft toys from the organizers and sponsors of the holiday.
The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is a reminder to humanity of its duty to show caring and compassion for the most vulnerable part of society – people with disabilities.
