Луганський національний університет імені Тараса Шевченка

Meeting of the Academic Council

A planned meeting of the Academic Council was held at LTSNU.

Two main issues were discussed on the agenda:

  • The implementation of the educational and enlightenment program of national-patriotic education of students at the Educational and Research Institute of Culture and Arts and at the Faculty of Foreign Languages;
  • The organization of the educational process with military students at the University.

Iryna Koteneva made a report on the implementation of the educational and enlightenment program of the national-patriotic education of students at the Educational and Research Institute of Culture and Arts and at the Faculty of Foreign Languages.

After hearing and discussing the report of the chairman of the commission on social and humanitarian work, the Academic Council noted that in the current situations of challenges and threats and simultaneously important changes in politics, economy, and social sphere, the priority task of the university was the definition of a new strategy for social and humanitarian work as a multicomponent and multi-vector system, which is the basis for the formation of the personality of a student, which is generally carried within the national-patriotic education of students at the Institute of Culture and Arts and the Faculty of Foreign Languages.

The national-patriotic education of students is one of the priority areas of socio-humanitarian work of the ICA, which is carried out in various forms: flash mobs, round tables, curatorial hours. Students of the Faculty of Foreign Languages participate in city events, attend excursions, and conduct environmental actions. The close cooperation has been established with the Poltava Regional Universal Scientific Library named after I.P. Kotlyarevsky. The powerful career guidance work of the Faculty allowed increasing the contingent and attracting foreign students to study.

At the same time, in the work of the Educational and Research Institute of Culture and Arts and the Faculty of Foreign Languages on the implementation of the program of national-patriotic education of students, there are certain problems, including the modernization of subjects and the content of curatorial hours and educational events.

Olena Karaman and Hennadii Mohylnyi presented a report on the organization of the educational process with military students at the University. Having heard and discussed the reports of the Director of the Educational and Research Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology and the Director of the Educational and Research Institute of Physics, Mathematics and Information Technologies, the Academic Council noted that at the moment 500 military students study at the University, who are recognized as combatants and who defended and continue to defend the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. 148 people were enrolled in 2016; 352 people – in 2017.

Such indicators became possible due to the fact that since 2015 the university is carrying out system advertising and career guidance work. The admission campaign-2017 for servicemen was organized. For each participant of military operations, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has allocated additional places for the state order. In order to organize effective mastering of educational material by military personnel, university teachers use such forms of work: contact classes; individual training sessions that are conducted in an out-of-class or classes with individual students to improve their level of preparation and disclosure of individual creative abilities. Scientific work with military students is carried out in the magistracy when writing master’s works and articles on their results.

At the same time, several problems were identified that hampered the educational process with military students more effective, among which different levels of activity of the university’s structural subdivisions to engage combatants in training and coverage of advertising and career-oriented work in a limited area of the Luhansk region, where the military units are located.

Among the Miscellaneous it was recommended to publish a collective monograph, methodological aids, collections of scientific and practical conferences, as well as the themes of doctoral dissertations were approved; a complex of advertising and career guidance measures was taken to attract applicants to study at Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University for the academic year 2017 – 2018 in the framework of the program to support a positive image of the institution.
