Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language
9.11.2017
Students and teachers of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University celebrated the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language.
On November 9, Ukraine traditionally celebrates the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language. This holiday was established by the Decree of the President of Ukraine in 1997, it is celebrated in honor of the Ukrainian chronicler Nestor – the follower of the creators of the Slavonic script Cyril and Methodius. Researchers believe that the Ukrainian written language begins with Nestor the Chronicler.
In 2000, a new tradition was laid; it was writing of the All-Ukrainian dictation of national unity, which is broadcast on Ukrainian Radio. This is a unique event, the goal of which is the unification of all not indifferent around the Ukrainian word. Teachers and students of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University could not bypass this tradition.
Today students, teachers and employees of our University have gathered in the scientific library of LTSNU. Before beginning the dictation, the Dean of the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Social Communications Tetyana Pinchuk told about the history of the holiday and remembered the words of Dmytro Belous: “Through the language, our white light shines sincerely and truthfully.”
The dictation became the embodiment of unity not only of our Motherland, but also of Alma Mater, since representatives of educational and scientific institutes and faculties, employees, students who showed spiritual unity with the Ukrainian people and national traditions joined the action and demonstrated knowledge of the spelling of their native language.
Upon completion of the dictation, the students shared their impressions. According to them, the dictation was difficult, but its writing is an excellent opportunity to restore the knowledge. And now they expect the results, which will appear on the website of our University very soon.
The Ukrainian language is our treasure, without which neither the people nor Ukraine as a state can exist; it is our soul and national pride. The Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language is the embodiment of beauty and melody of the native word, an occasion to plunge deeper into the history of our country and remember the names of those who joined the struggle for freedom and independence of the Motherland.
