The Center for Informational Technologies of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University celebrates the 15th anniversary from the date of its foundation.
Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University is a higher educational institution; its prestige is based on the quality of education. That is why the University strives to use the latest modern information technologies in the training of specialists in various fields.
On November 4, 2002, at Luhansk National University under the leadership of the Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work, Professor Oleksandr S. Meniailenko, the Center for Information Technologies was created. Its purpose is to support the scientific and educational process and to provide it with an appropriate technical base. At that time such a large-scale unit did not have similar analogues in other higher educational institutions of Ukraine.
The Center includes several departments, including: the Department of Educational Laboratories and Computer Classes, the Programming Department, the Service Department, the Computer Network Department, the Computer Polygraphy and Design Department, the New Information Technology Training Department, the Communications Systems Department, etc. The units provided technical support, local computer network, access to the Internet, support and development of the site of the university and its structural subdivisions, development of electronic educational and scientific-methodological material, program for the automation of the structural units (internal and isolated), and more.
The founding of the Center for Informational Technologies has its own history. For example, Oleksandr Meniailenko, when he was in charge of the Department of Computer Science and Computer Engineering, made a lot of efforts to computerize the university and in 1994, on his initiative, the Information and Computing Center with a small staff was created. At that time Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University was one of the first two higher educational establishments in the Luhansk region (the second was the Donbas State Technical University) was connected to e-mail and the Internet.
However, over time, there was a need to improve the ITC and in 1998 the Information Center was created on its basis. Two years later, the Internet café Xtremal was opened at the University to help students and teachers with the search for materials necessary for the educational process. At the same time, the site of LTSNU was created, work continued on technical equipment, computerization of the educational institution.
For 15 years of existence, specialists of the Center for Informational Technologies have created and provided support for the university’s website and its structural divisions, equipped several dozen computer classes, a multimedia audience, developed and implemented many programs to automate the work of individual departments (for example, the Admission Committee, Personnel Department) university unified network and access to the Internet. In addition, with the active participation of the CIT team, special multimedia courses of lectures, electronic textbooks, and curricula using the latest technologies were created jointly with the faculty. The annual contest for the best electronic textbook or computer training program was organized, the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Information Technologies in Scientific Research and Educational Process” was organized and held, the All-Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Conference “Cyber aggression: Psychological-Pedagogical, Legal and Cybernetic Problems” . The work of CIT was repeatedly noted at regional, state and international exhibitions and competitions.
In 2014, Oleksandr Sergiyovych together with specialists of the Department of Computer Polygraphy and Design – Anna Zvereva and Olena Esaulova organized and held a photo exhibition “Zabuti dzherela”, dedicated to the spiritual monuments of Luhansk – Orthodox churches and cathedrals.
With the technical support of CIT, in particular, with the active participation of specialists in the Department of Computer Polygraphy and Design, eight years in a row the International Vocal and Choral Competition-Festival “Hai Pisnya Sklykae Druziv” was held at the Luhansk National University. Today, the music forum is resuming its work in Bukovina (Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University) within the framework of the “East + West” project. LTSNU is a co-organizer of the contest-festival, and specialists of the Department of Computer and Design of CIT participate in the organization and preparation of a large-scale project.
Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University has been in forced evacuation for several years, which creates certain difficulties in providing the educational process. The Center remains an independent structure, although it has reduced its staff for objective reasons, and continues to develop the technical potential of the University in accordance with the requirements and needs of the modern educational market to follow the path of integration into the European educational space.
