Solemn Events

On October 27, solemn events devoted to the 94th anniversary of the proclamation of the Turkish Republic were held at the Faculty of Foreign Languages of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University (LNU).

Students who are learning Turkish as a foreign language prepared a presentation devoted to the event.  They reported the following: on October 29, 1923, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk officially proclaimed a Turkish republic. After that, the Grand National Assembly of Turkey held a vote, which resulted in Ataturk unanimously becoming the first president of the Turkish Republic. For the first time, celebrations dedicated to the Republic Day took place a year later, and the official status of this holiday took place in 1925 and since then, October 29 is celebrated annually as the main statе holiday of Turkey.

Students prepared wall papers and visual materials devoted to thе 94th anniversary of the proclamation of the Turkish republic. Ukrainian students were able to learn about the history and traditions of celebration of the Republic Day in Turkey.

Many years the LNU department of oriental languages has been cooperating  with the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Ukraine. Recently, thanks to the efforts of the Embassy, the University library has been enriched with the latest  literature, namely, student’s books for those who learn Turkish. Books   contain discs with audio and video materials. All that will undoubtely    promote better mastery of the Turkish language by young  Ukrainians.

LNU is doing its best to popularize the Turkish language in Ukraine. The department of oriental languages organizes lectures, conferences and other events and disseminates knowledge about Turkish culture among the public in Poltava. We pay a great deal of attention to improving our students’ knowledge of the Turkish language and help them learn and improve the language independently.
