Events within the framework of Ukrainian-German Year of Languages

The Department of Romance and Germanic Philology hosted events within the framework of Ukrainian-German Year of Languages.

As you know, 2017 was declared the Ukrainian-German year of languages. This outstanding event was not left without the attention of the Department of Romance and Germanic Philology. A number of activities connected with the German language were carried out.

On October 13, a very interesting meeting took place, as a guest from Germany came to the second-year students majoring in “German and English Language and Literature”. The main goal of this event was the intercultural exchange of experience, as well as the development of students’ speech skills. Students greeted the distant guest and showed sincere Ukrainian hospitality.

During the lesson, students read poetry, watched cognitive videos, discussed important aspects of life in Ukraine and Germany, and most importantly, they enjoyed communicating with a foreigner. Because not every day there is an opportunity to communicate with a representative of the country whose language we study! This meeting will remain in the memory of the students for a long time, and will undoubtedly motivate to study the language and culture of Germany.

On October 17, students of the 3rd, 4th year and master’s degrees majoring in “Language and Literature (German)”, together with the teachers of the Department, plunged into the fabulous world of magic German fairy tales. For over ninety minutes, students from a friendly student community made a journey to the past, during their playful and carefree childhood. Students took an active part in the preparation and conduct of the event, in the execution of interesting tasks and competitions, and they spoke in German with pleasure. Thanks to the efforts of students and leading experts in the German language department, an atmosphere of mutual trust and support reigned in the audience. The purpose of the educational event was to encourage studying German language in the prospect of strengthening intercultural relations with representatives of the German-speaking society. All participants of the event, both teachers and students, united by the love of the German language, expressed a desire to further study and promote the spread of the German language in the territory of our state.
