Early intervention seminar

Students of the Institute of Physical Education and Sports majoring in “Physical Therapy, Ergotherapy” and “Human Health” took part in a seminar on early intervention.

On October 25, a seminar was held at the Kreminna Regional Center for Social Rehabilitation of Disabled Children, which was attended by students of the Institute of Physical Education and Sports majoring in “Physical Therapy, Ergotherapy” and “Human Health”.

The event is connected with the introduction in Ukraine of a large-scale project aimed at helping families raising children with special needs. The project was supported by the National Assembly of Persons with Disabilities, international organizations (UNICEF, HealthProm, the EU Delegation in Ukraine, the Government of Germany) and is conducted jointly by the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Social Policy and the Ministry of Education.

The practice of early intervention includes a system of activities aimed at young children with developmental disorders or the risk of such violations, as well as activities aimed at supporting the parents of such children. The main tasks of early support and intervention are to identify and diagnose developmental disorders in young children (from birth to three years), provide them with medical, rehabilitation, psychological and pedagogical assistance, and help in the socialization of children and their families.

One of the seminar questions was to introduce students to the method of rapid and effective detection of abnormalities in the development of a child – the questionnaire ASQ-3 (Ages & Stages Questionnaires). It enables parents to monitor the development of their child, helps to pay attention to problems in time, if any, allows early correction of violations with the help of qualified specialists. The Regional Center for Social Rehabilitation of Disabled Children actively conducts a survey of families with children aged from one month to three full years and residing in the Kreminna district. This procedure is free and does not require much effort.

Thus, early intervention, like the system of rendering assistance to young children with special needs, is aimed at providing comprehensive support to families raising such children, helps to reduce the number of refusals from children with psychophysical disorders and prevents disability.
