Луганський національний університет імені Тараса Шевченка

International Open Access Week

The University hosted the solemn opening of the International Open Access Week.

The solemn event was held today at the scientific library of our University. Scientists, teachers and students of our educational institution came to the holiday.

The Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work Oleksandr Meniailenko addressed the audience with a welcoming speech. He spoke about the history of the Open Access movement, which has been held for 10 years, about its advantages, and also stressed that we should strive and develop together with the entire civilized world.

The acting director of the scientific library Maria Pochinkova informed the audience about the possibility of access to free, high-speed, permanent, full-text content in real time via open databases. Among them is the university repository, which has already more than 1,765 works.

After a general acquaintance with the program of events, Kateryna Kotelenets held a seminar “Comparative studies and their results”. She spoke about major international projects (TIMSS, PIRLS, PISA, and TALIS), websites and databases that are publicly available and can help students and teachers in the learning process.

At the end of the event, a flash mob was held dedicated to the International Open Access Week.

Open access is the way to the presence of Ukraine in the global scientific community, recognition and support of our educational institution in the world.
