“Book Boom”

On October 20, the Luhansk Regional Library named after Maksym Gorky and Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University began to implement the Book Boom project.

As the co-authors explain, the project is aimed at free exchange of literature through the installation of shelves of bookcrossing at Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University and Luhansk Regional Library for quests, thematic evenings and meetings of the informal literary association “Literary BOOM”.

They started with the “Literary BOOM”, which took place at the Luhansk Regional Library. Students together with librarians discussed postmodernism in all its manifestations.

The question of the students’ personal attitude to Ukrainian literature, including the modern one, was provocative.  Students shared why they often choose foreign literature than Ukrainian literature. It turns out that the reason lies in the author’s manner of presentation and pessimistic images that prevent young people from reading the book. Concerning the literature of postmodernism, everyone listed those read works that they liked.

The organizers were also interested in the students’ attitude towards the Book Boom project. Young people not only supported the project, but also expressed a desire to become a part of it as volunteers and participants in further activities.

The next event is scheduled for October 28. The Luhansk Regional Library will once again gather students and citizens for the evening thematic program – “The Hobbit Syndrome” – dedicated to the eightieth birthday of J.Tolkien’s book “The Hobbit, Or There and Back Again.”
