Honorary freshmen
3.9.2017
On September 1, servicemen, combatants and the ATO participants led a row of freshmen at the celebration of Knowledge Day and the start of a new academic year.
352 defenders of the Fatherland Series became the students of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University! Taking into account 148 servicemen who entered the University in 2016, 500 military participants are already studying at the University! Almost half of them are students of the Educational and Research Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology.
These are people who since 2014 have been heroically defending the sovereignty and independence of our country in the eastern region, forming a strong fortress and protecting Ukraine from the full-scale invasion of the aggressor.
This is our pride, glory, faith in the victory and pledge of the safe return of the university to the walls of our native Alma Mater.
In 2014, immediately after the evacuation to the city of Starobilsk, Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University became not only an educational, scientific and socio-cultural center for the development of the region, but also became an outpost of Ukrainian culture in the east of our country, fulfilling a high mission of uniting the Ukrainian people into a single Ukrainian political nation, the crystallization of a single and progressive national idea. And all this is thanks to the strong cooperation and friendship with the military, who are doing their duty in the Luhansk region.
Luhansk National University became the only non-military higher educational institution in Ukraine, which for the second year in a row enrolls servicemen who are recognized as participants in military operations and defending the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, creating conditions for the development of our University in a hybrid war in Donbas.
In addition to defensive functions, military students perform a high mission of educating the younger generation in the most difficult political, social and economic region of Ukraine, daily experiencing a purposeful and powerful military and information attack. Representing mainly western regions of Ukraine (Lviv, Ternopil, Khmelnytsky, Ivano-Frankivsk and other regions), servicemen participate in all cultural and educational events of the University, debunking the myths about the “polarity” of the East and West, educating the students respectful and tolerant attitude to the diversity of cultural traditions in Ukraine, forming a positive image of the defender of the Fatherland; forming conditions for the development of our University and the upbringing of a new generation of patriots in the Luhansk region.
Now Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University and the military act as a united front in the fight against the aggressor and the restoration of Ukraine’s integrity.
Higher education for combatants is not only a confident future, but also a means of preventing or eliminating negative psychological conditions and personal deformations developing in them as a result of the constant threat to life, secrecy and the regime of vital activity in the atmosphere.
Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University has done everything to ensure that the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine allocates targeted budget places to each defender, as it is firmly convinced: every combatant’s feat must be appropriately valued by the society and the state, and every defender of the Fatherland should feel recognition of his heroic contribution in upholding the sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.
Today the University expresses its sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine for the high appreciation of the heroic deed of servicemen and the allocation of 351 places to the state order.
We are convinced that giving military personnel the opportunity to study for the state budget of Ukraine will help to raise morale and confidence in the future among servicemen; will ensure the approximation of the convincing victory!
The staff and students of the Educational and Research Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology congratulates the whole university on the New Academic Year! Only a highly educated young generation of Ukrainians will be able to build a new Ukraine with a formed scientific worldview, creative thinking, ability to make quick decisions in non-standard situations.
