LNU Celebrated the First Anniversary in the Third Evacuation

The 94th anniversary of the first university in Donbas was celebrated on March 1.
Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University celebrated it in evacuation as it was during the Germany occupation. There were several “evacuated” anniversaries in that distant 40’s of the previous century. But people of LNU hope to celebrate the next holiday in the native university of Ukrainian Luhansk.
“Today Luhansk National University goes through hard times. We celebrated the first anniversary in the third evacuation, – they told at LNU. So as you understand we didn’t have holiday program. We hold the ceremonial Academic Council where awarded the best students, teachers and honorary professors and summarized the results of the previous year”.
In spite of the difficult times LNU is an important training base for pedagogic and non-pedagogic staff, – they noted at the Academic Council. Annually about 10 thousand of skilled professionals graduate from it. Many of them are the honor of the whole Ukraine.
Also the university takes the leading positions in the top-rankings and it is regard as a serious competitor for Luhansk universities and for the capital ones, – they told at the ceremonial meeting. “For the last 7 years we are among 25 best higher educational establishments of our country according to the ranking “Top 200 Ukraine”. In 2014 LNU left all Luhansk universities behind. According to the ranking of Webometrics – 2015 the university took the 27th position that is almost 10 positions higher than last years results, – they emphasized at the university. This means that we keep improving even at such difficult period”.
Premium status of LNU is created by its students. Today they still bring diplomas of the laureates of the international competitions, scientific conferences and subject olympiads, personal awards of state and international level to the university award collection. “So, for instance, in January one of our students won two gold and two silver medals in swimming competitions in San-Antonio (the USA – author’s note). And this summer LNU postgraduate student is going to the mathematical forum to Germany. Such list is very long but that is just the point that our students are competitive in the world arena” – they shared the examples from the university life of LNU.
People at LNU tell about future with doubt and confidence at the same time. They are worried that situation in the East of Ukraine can become worse. But nevertheless they will perform all obligations to the students to the last.
