Participation in the training

Students of LTSNU took part in the training to strengthen the culture of dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution.

The training on local mediation of activists, decision-makers and opinion leaders from Donetsk and Luhansk regions for strengthening the culture of dialogue, mediation, negotiations and the peaceful resolution of conflicts was held in the city of Kreminna as part of an initiative implemented by the UNDP Peace and Reconstruction Program with the financial support from Sweden and Switzerland.

Yaroslav Chepel, a fourth-year student of the Institute of Economy and Business of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University, and Yulia Konovalova, a graduate of our University, took part in the event as part of the training group. “Local mediation is a process of resolving conflicts by persons who are geographically tied to the society in which the conflict has occurred and have a high level of trust,”– the organizers explain.

According to Yaroslav, “Local mediation” now is a very topical issue amid a war of interests, decentralization and displaced universities. It is very similar to the transformative approach, which is a method of resolving conflicts with a focus on long-term solutions instead of short-term ones, which also enhances the opportunities and rights of the conflicting parties.

After passing the training, the students of our University received positive impressions and certificates.

Participants of the training sincerely thank the organizers for the opportunity to get good experience, for cooperation and additional resources for developing the position and supporting the opportunities for peacekeeping activities in their communities.
