“Vyshyvanka with your own hands”
18.5.2017
On May 18, the University announced the results of the competition “Vyshyvanka with your own hands.”
This competition is traditional for our University. Prior to the start of military operations in eastern Ukraine, it was conducted in Luhansk, and after the forced evacuation – in Starobilsk.
The purpose of the contest was to determine the best author’s embroidery. Participants could become both students and lecturers of LNU, who were supposed to submit for the jury’s consideration the own created embroidery or send a photo of the participant in the self-made embroidery.
Five works were submitted for the competition. Each of the embroideries is original and worthy of victory. Therefore, the jury of the contest did not neglect any of the participants.
The first place was occupied by Yulia Mohylna – master student majoring in “Software Engineering” of the Educational and Research Institute of Physics, Mathematics and Information Technologies.
“The embroidery is made in the form of a dress with a wide belt. The whole picture is embroidered with beads. The front part of the dress, sleeves, belt and hem are decorated with embroidery. As a picture, poppies are used. This embroidery ornament is used for solemn events. For manufacturing a special pattern was used on white fabric, on which beads of many colors are sewn. Three weeks of continuous work – and the dress is ready! “- The author shared her secret.
The second place was taken by two works. One of them is the collective work “Sister’s Ward” by native sisteers Svitlana Negodiaeva (Associate Professor of the Department of Ukrainian Literature) and Tatyana Chepurko (Deputy Director for the Educational Work of the Milovatska secondary school of the I-III degrees of the Svatovo district).
“The creed of our genealogy is to be proud of the achievements of our family. From my parents, my sister and I inherited the best hobby – making amulets, gifts with our own hands. Embroidery, beadwork in flower compositions, icons, towels and embroideries is our delight. Our common product will be my best amulet,” – the participant of the contest told.
Another work belongs to Anastasia Mazneva – a student majoring in “Design” of the College of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University.
“I embroidered my vyshyvanka on my birthday, June 1, 2015, and finished on September 9, 2016. Embroidery is a painstaking work that requires a lot of effort. My embroidery is decorated with flower ornaments, which required 40 sets of beads. And the idea arose purposefully, because that’s how I show my love for my country,” – Anastasia said.
The third place was shared by 2 participants: Anna Datsenko, 2nd year student majoring in “Biology” of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, and Olena Dukhova, 4th year student majoring in “Primary Education” of the Educational and Research Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology.
The winners of the contest were awarded with gifts from the Primary Trade Union Organization of the University, and they were awarded with diplomas for the popularization of traditional folk art – Ukrainian embroidery, which is organically intertwined in the style of modern clothing.
