The first vyshyvanka in life
18.5.2017
The collective of LTSNU presented vyshyvanka to the newborns in the Starobilsk maternity ward.
For each Ukrainian, vyshyvanka is not just a good shirt that can be worn for a holiday, but, first of all, a guard against evil eye and evil spirit. Our ancestors also firmly believed in the power of the embroidered shirt. Even the expression “born in a shirt” means being happy, healthy and successful. It has long been believed that the women invested some kind of wish in every symbol, which is embroidered in vyshyvanka, such as: prosperity, love and coziness, or health and happiness. Vyshyvanka became a symbol of happiness, ancestral memory and health for the kids.
On May 18, students and teachers of our University presented newborns their first vyshyvanka in life. On this festive day, three girls – Kamila Luganska, Evangelina Rozhkova and Anastasia Sheiko received embroidered shirts.
“This day has become a good tradition, when the staff of the University comes to the hospital and presents embroideries to our future generation,” the Director of the Regional Center for Vocational Education of LTSNU N.S. Kurylo said. And he added: “Let them be an amulet for you, and in the future will encourage you to enter our educational institution.”
Parents of the kids were pleasantly surprised by such an initiative of the University and gladly accepted national clothes from the teachers.
“We are sincerely grateful to the staff of the University for the fact that today our daughter received as a gift her first vyshyvanka. Now it is too big for her, and as soon as the Evangelina grows up to it, she will definitely wear it,” – the mother of the newborn said.
“Thanks to the collective of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University for the embroidered shirts given to the children. I hope that this action will become traditional and from year to year the newborns will go home with embroideries,” – the head of the obstetric and gynecological department Yu.A. Dzuban said.
Students and teachers of LTSNU wish newborns good health and happiness, and their parents – family well-being. Let the embroidered shirts given to children become for them a guard for life!
