7.4.2017
The second-year students majoring in “Human Health” of the Institute of Physical Education and Sports conducted a preventive action dedicated to World Health Day.
Every year on April 7, on the day of the founding of the WHO, the World Health Day is celebrated. In 2017, the theme is depression. The motto of the campaign is: “Depression: let’s talk”.
Depression is a disease characterized by a constant state of despondency and loss of interest in activities that usually bring satisfaction, as well as inability to do everyday activities, for at least two weeks.
On April 7, the 2nd year students majoring in “Human Health” of the Institute of Physical Education and Sports conducted a preventive action dedicated to the World Health Day, during which they tried to draw public attention to the problem of depression.
People of all ages, all categories of the population and all countries suffer from depression. Depression causes mental suffering, negatively affects a person’s ability to perform even the simplest everyday tasks and can sometimes have disastrous consequences for the relationship of a person with relatives and friends, as well as a person’s ability to earn a living. In extreme cases, depression can lead to suicide – today the second leading cause of death among people aged 15 to 29 years.
Nevertheless, depression is susceptible to prevention and treatment. A deeper understanding of what depression is and how it can be prevented or cured will help to dispel the negative stereotypes associated with this disease and encourage more people to seek help.
