Accessible Education

The representative of the University took part in the round table on the search for ways to simplify access to the education for children and youth from the East of Ukraine and Crimea.

On March 27, the event was held and organized by the Ministry for Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons of Ukraine in conjunction with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the NGO “Open Policy Foundation”.

The meeting was attended by the Minister for Temporary Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons Vadim Chernysh, the Deputy Minister of Education and Science Roman Greba, the First Deputy Minister of Information Policy Emine Japarova, the Head of the UNICEF Office in Ukraine Giovanna Barberis, the General Director of the “Open Policy Foundation” Iryna Zhdanova, as well as representatives of educational centers “Donbass – Ukraine” of displaced universities.

N.Y. Matzai represented Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University. She spoke about the features of the Educational Center “Donbass-Ukraine”, results of the admission campaign 2016 and the problems in the information support of the center’s activities.

During the discussion, the participants drew attention to the effectiveness of the state’s actions aimed at accessing the education of residents of uncontrolled territories. In particular, it is the cancellation of the requirement of mandatory issuance of certificates, passports of citizens of Ukraine and other documents for the external testing or admission to the university.

“Unhindered access to education in the current conditions is one of the most powerful tools for preserving the integrity of Ukraine,” – the Deputy Minister of Information Policy Emine Japarova said.

According to Iryna Zhdanova, today a memo for entrants from Donetsk and Luhansk regions has been developed, which informs about the simplified procedure for admission to universities of Ukraine. Now an information campaign is continuing to spread it. Also, the relevant information can be obtained on the website of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine: dostupnaosvita.com.ua.
