The conference of the student self-government and elections of the chairman of the student self-government were held at LTSNU.
An initiative student team is the driving force of the development of a society that can make positive changes in the educational environment. With the aim of democratizing student life and educating young people for social activism, a powerful self-government system was created at Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University, which included student leaders of structural subdivisions.
Since September 2016, Alena Ponomareva temporarily led the student youth. During this time, a large number of various events took place; representatives of the student self-government of our University visited the All-Ukrainian conferences and exchanged experience with students from other universities. According to Alena, the most important achievement for the period of the self-government activity is the activation and unification of students around a common goal.
During the conference of the student self-government, attendees listened to the report on the activities carried out by the acting chairman of the student self-government A. Ponomareva, as well as the candidates with the justification of their own program.
The event was attended by the Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work of LTSNU O.I. Babichev, chairman of the Primary Trade Union Organization of the University V.P. Moroz and Deputy Director for Academic Affairs of the Educational and Research Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology О.N. Tsalapova.
Oleksandr Babichev addressed a welcoming speech to the audience, spoke about the history of the student self-government formation at Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University, and noted the important role of students’ initiatives in the activities of the University.
During the conference, the elections of the chairman of the student self-government took place. This event takes on special significance, is a symbol of democracy and development of our educational institution. The students developed a corresponding provision, with the support of teachers. A rating vote was organized in the structural subdivisions, the winners of which took part in the second round of elections for the post of the chairman of the student self-government of LTSNU. Ten delegates from each subdivision were elected to participate in the voting.
On the eve of the elections, during the student self-government meeting, the candidates told about their program and the algorithm for solving problematic issues.
According to results of the secret voting the student of the Educational and Research Institute of Economy and Business Yaroslav Chepel was elected the chairman of the student self-government. His pre-election program includes the development of student initiatives and the involvement of students in cultural programs and sports competitions. According to Yaroslav, the main tasks that need to be solved are improving the work of student self-government, protecting students’ rights and interacting with student youth from other universities in Ukraine.
According to the chairman of the Primary Trade Union Organization of LTSNU V.P. Moroz, the main goal of the student self-government chairman’s activity is to be an effective leader of the student team, to continue successful work and to develop the initiative of the youth.
Teachers, staff and students of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University congratulate the newly elected chairman of the student self-government Yaroslav Chepel and wish fruitful work, creative inspiration, development and self-improvement.
