Participation in Training

From February 13 to February 21, 2017, in Kiev there were a set of trainings for lecturers of universities who teach English for specific purposes and for those who teach specific subjects in English.

Our university takes part in “English for universities” project organized by British Council in Ukraine since 2016. The primary aim for Winter school was a professional development of teacher’s competence in teaching English in ESP (English for Specific Purposes), EAP (English for Academic Purposes) and EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction).

Inna Kurlishchuk, the lecturer of Pedagogics department, and Lina Bondarenko, the lecturer of Physicotechnical systems and informatics department, were invited to the trainings. They completed the course successfully and knew about academic content and English learning benefit from EMI. Micro-teaching sessions were organized on trainings in EMI groups so that teaches from different universities could share their teaching experience and get new information from their colleagues. One of the most important distinguished questions was about efficient strategies of learning through English.

Lecturers of the departments of Romano-Germanic languages and Theory and practice of translation Svitlana Perova, Tetiana Koknova, Svitlana Pevna, Daria Hrunenko and Marharyta Vieriemieieva also took part in Winter school of pedagogical mastery in the context of “English for universities” project.

During six intensive days our colleagues examined such important questions as place of ESP and EAP in educational system, key approaches in teaching English for specific purposes, ways to motivate students to learn English, setting aims of a lesson using SMART-approach, choosing authentic manuals and adapting them to students’ needs, using professional orientated tasks and activities on lessons, the evaluation system of academic writing works.
