The Educational and Research Institute of Physics, Mathematics and Information Technology celebrates the anniversary of foundation.

Birthdays as the starting point for the person and for any higher educational institution, each of its faculty is always a memorable holiday!

The Faculty of Physics and Mathematics took one of the most authoritative and significant positions in the solid 95-year history of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University.

Our faculty has been the most stable form: it survived only two reorganizations at the beginning of the XXI century (in 2001 – based on the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics was created the Institute of Economy and Business; On December 1, 2007 was founded the Institute of Information Technologies), that was caused by objective requirements of the new information society.

It is very important at this time to take a commemorative certain results of the development, pay tribute to the memory of those whose lives were inextricably linked with the leading faculty of the university – the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics.

“Our Faculty of Physics and Mathematics – both a friend and a brother”. It is not just a phrase. During 85 difficult, eventful years, our Faculty has been a real source of manpower of the mathematical, physical, scientific and educational elite of not only Donbass, but also many other regions of the country.

Throughout the decade of the past and present centuries, in all conditions (this is evidenced by the documents and the memories of graduates) the Faculty has been providing the highest level of training, whose work and knowledge have always been in demand.

The formation of the Faculty was accompanied by significant events, among which worth mentioning:

• December 1, 2007 – Creation of the Institute of Information Technologies.
• 2008 – Creation of the Microprocessor Systems Design Laboratory on the basis of the Institute of Information Technologies.
• 2008, June – Creation of a student site of IIT (http: //www.ііt.org.ua).
• 2008 October – The first issue of the student newspaper “FLASHKA”.

• June 20, 2009 – The performance of the folk men’s choir “Integral”. A.Z.Hamishon is conducting.
• 2009 – The beginning of a comprehensive search on the history of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics: restoration of historical facts, creation of photo archives.
• June 20, 2009 – The meeting in 25 years and the concert of the folk choir “Integral”.
• 2009 – The Department of Economic Informatics was renamed to the Department of Theoretical and Applied Informatics.
• 2009 – The Director of the Institute of Economy and Business, Associate Professor of the Department of General Mathematics V.P.Hmel was awarded with the title “Honorary Professor of LTSNU”.

• March 22, 2009 – The centenary of the birth of the Dean of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of 1944-1945, the Head of the Mathematics Department G.I. Gavrilko. Presentation of the book of V.G. Gavrilko “Our Ancestors and Their Time.”
• October 2009 – Creation of a volunteer squad of IIT “ESWAT”.
• October 2009 – holding the All-Ukrainian tournament of young mathematicians on the basis of LTSNU.
• December 20, 2009 – the 80th anniversary of the Dean of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of 1978-1987 A.N.Kulandina.
• 2010 – The Institute of Information Technologies was awarded with the silver medal of the exhibition “Modern Education in Ukraine – 2010” in the nomination “Competence Approach in Higher Education”.
• 2010 – The Associate Professor of the Department of General Mathematics B.V.Popov was awarded with the title “Honorary Professor of LTSNU”.

• September 2010 – the Physics Department was renamed to the Department of Physics and Nanotechnology.
• October 2010 – Creation of the Laboratory of Specialized Computer Systems at the Institute of Information Technologies.
• March 1, 2011 – the 90th anniversary of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University.
• March 18, 2016 – the 85th anniversary of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University.

The glorious history of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics continues …
