“A Portrait of a Nation”

Students of the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Social Communications of LTSNU wrote a historical essay “Portrait of a Nation.”

Today, November 21, Ukrainian people celebrate the Day of Dignity and Freedom for the third time. This holiday was established in honor of the beginning of two revolutions in Ukrainian history: the 2004 Orange Revolution and the Revolution of Dignity in 2013.

The day before, in one of the workshops on “History of Ukraine and Ukrainian culture”, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of History of Ukraine M.T. Vyhvatenko offered the first-year students of the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Social Communications of LTSNU to write a historical essay “Portrait of a Nation.”

“I am convinced that our students are sincere, honest and talented. They cope with the task as “excellent”. Moreover, some students have not only conducted a parallel and confirmed their thoughts with arguments and facts, but also thoroughly expressed their views on what kind of nation we are,” – M.T. Vyhvatenko said.

According to the teacher, all the works are worthy of attention, but the best works were recognized the essays of Anastasia Gorban (I course, specialty “Ukrainian Language and Literature, Foreign Language”), Yulia Tarasova (I course, specialty “Ukrainian Language and Literature, Foreign Language”), Yulia Kut’ko (I course, specialty “Publishing”) and Olena Smetanina (I course, specialty “Journalism”). Mykola Tymofiyovych noted the zeal of students and presented them books from his personal library.

The Ukrainian people experienced many terrible events, and despite all survived. That is right now. We must believe in ourselves and remember that the Ukrainian nation is one family with common problems, worries and happiness.
