Participation in the 46th World Powerlifting Championship

Athletes of Luhansk National University took part in the 46th World Powerlifting Championship among men and women.
The World Championship took place from November 14 to 19 in Orlando (the US, FL). The competition was attended by nearly 260 athletes from 39 countries to compete not only for medals but also for the licenses to participate in the 10th World Games to be held next year in Wroclaw (Poland, Aug. 03-13).
Students of the Educational and Research Institute of Physical Education and Sports of LTSNU (the city of Kreminna) showed good results in the national team of the country.
The silver winner of the competition became the master student of specialty “Sports”, the master of sports of Ukraine of international class Mykola Barannik. He added “silver” in the squat (325.5 kg), “gold” and record of Ukraine in the bench press (232.5 kg) in the weight category of 74 kg (in the overall standings).
In the weight category up to 105 kg the yesterday graduate of the Institute Dmytro Semenenko (the master of sports of Ukraine of international class) in a tense struggle with athletes from Norway and France won the gold medal in triathlon with a score of 1022.5 kg, thus setting another world record in the squat with a barbell. Now it is equal to 417, 5 kg. Also Dmytro won “bronze” in the deadlift.
The master student of specialty “Sports” MSUIC Oleksii Bychkov did not leave any chance to his rivals in the weight category up to 120 kg. The sum of three exercises – 1125 kg that is a new world record in the category. Besides, Oleksii won “silver” in the squat and bench press, and “gold” in the deadlift (375 kg).
Due to this success, our athletes provided the national team’s victory in the team competition of the World Championship for the second time. The most important thing that they won licenses to participate in the World Games in 2017 (in the non-Olympic sports World Games are analogous to the Olympic Games).
