International Students’ Day
18.11.2016
LTSNU celebrated the International Students’ Day.
The active student youth is the key to successful development of the country. A student of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University is an honorary title, which is a guarantee of success, future professional and career achievements. Famous diplomats, journalists, businessmen, public figures, outstanding specialists not only in Ukraine but also in the international arena began their path with the university student days.
The holiday is associated with youth and romance, but the story of its introduction is accompanied by tragic events in Czechoslovakia during the Second World War. During a peaceful demonstration in Prague a medical student Jan Opletal was severely wounded. On the day of the funeral of this student (November15), hundreds of people took to the streets. The outcome of the protest was the arrest of dozens of demonstrators. On the morning of November 17, the German invaders surrounded the hostels and arrested more than a thousand students. All of them were taken to the concentration camp in Sachsenhausen. At the meetings in 1941 in London, the International Council of Students issued a statement in which the day on November 17 was declared as the International Students’ Day in memory of the events in the Czech Republic.
In support of the initiative of students, Ukraine joined the global community. Each year our country celebrates the International Students’ Day. This holiday is a symbol of hope, confidence, perseverance and faith in a brighter future.
At the initiative of the Student Government of our University and with the support of the Centre for Culture and Leisure and the Primary Trade Union Organization at LTSNU was held a festive disco dedicated to the Students’ Day. Everyone present could enjoy the warm atmosphere, modern music, and participate in interesting contests and fun.
The Rector of LTSNU S.V. Savchenko congratulated all those present and noted that students play an important role in the state-building.
Teachers of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University, including Director of the Educational and Research Institute of History, International Relations, Social and Political Sciences L.T. Vakhovsky and Chairman of the Primary Trade Union Organization V.P. Moroz joined the congratulations.
The most anticipated event of the festival was the lottery, the prizes for which were provided by the Primary Trade Union Organization of our University.
LTSNU is proud of its students, who praise the name of the native Alma Mater, demonstrate high results of the scientific and creative activity, and keep the traditions of the Ukrainian people.
