“Native Language Pure as the Dew”
8.11.2016
On the seventh of November at 11 o’clock in the Poltava Regional Universal Scientific Library named after I. Kotlyarevsky the staff of the department of social and cultural activities held for students of the Faculty of Foreign Languages Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University the literary-musical event “Mother tongue clean as the dew”, dedicated to the Day of Ukrainian literature and language.
The Day of Ukrainian literature and language is celebrated on the ninth of November because people honor the memory of Saint Nestor the Chronicler. According to many historians and researchers, the written Ukrainian language began exactly with him and his writings. The Ukrainian language absorbed all the best, the most tender, the greatest, the wisest, the most poetic and the most sensitive: the first voice of a newborn baby and the last desperate cry of human, the loud laugh of a joyful child and the touching cry of an orphan, the enjoyment of work and friendship and a big disappointment from cold human indifference, a shining bright moon and clear stars, the strength of century-old oaks, symbolizing the strength of Ukrainian nation and the iridescent play of waves of the Black sea, the bitterness of wanderings in a foreign land and a sense of elation in the prayer to God for your family, for Ukraine, for peace, goodness and calmness all over the world.
At the meeting, the students enjoyed some beautiful touching poetry and songs in the Ukrainian language, underlining again how beautiful and melodious our language is. Moreover, the participants of the event had the opportunity to see the publications from assets of the Poltava Regional Universal Scientific Library named after I. Kotlyarevsky which were presented at the book-illustrative exhibition. The meeting lasted about an hour in a warm, sincere and friendly atmosphere. Finally, the students thanked the staff of the department of social and cultural activities for professionally organized event and for the great job in instilling the love, respect and honor to our mother tongue – the Ukrainian language.
