Teleconference with British Council

On the fourth of November Kyiv-Starobilsk teleconference took place between British Council and Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University within the project «The English Language for Universities».
A teleconference was attended by Rector of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University, teachers of all Faculties and, of course, students of different specialties; also by Zhanna Sevastyanova, the manager of the British Council project «The English Language for Universities» and Rhode Bolayto, the consultant from Great Britain.
British Council continues training program and online courses for teachers and students in order to improve the level of the English language for the participants of the project «The English Language for Universities». By the way, Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University joined the project in June 2016.
The goal of this project is to improve language skills and familiarize with modern approaches of teaching different English subjects, such as English for specific purposes and English for academic purposes and to master the proficiency level of lecturers who teach English and students of leading educational institutions of Ukraine.
In less than six months, eight teachers of the Faculty of Foreign Languages participated in various training programs, whose aim was to improve the quality of teaching English based on modern approaches. One of the selection criteria for this type of training was the readiness to invest personal time and effort for the professional development.
The next step of cooperation was questioning both teachers and students of the university and involving them into the project «The English Language for Universities». About one hundred respondents took part in this questioning, including students and professors of all Faculties of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University.
During the teleconference further steps to involve the university in this project and further cooperation were discussed. Representatives of British Council were pleased with the activity of students at the meeting. Zhanna Sevastyanova said that they sincerely welcome the desire of teachers to professional development, and the desire of students to master the English language at level B2. Also, Zhanna Sevastyanova added that British Council will promote cooperation in this area with our university.
