Meeting with the Human Rights Coalition

The university held a meeting with the Human Rights Coalition “Justice for Peace in Donbas.”
The coalition “Justice for Peace in Donbas” is an informal network of 17 human rights organizations and initiatives that focus their efforts for consistent documentation of human rights violations committed during the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine. The main activities of the organization is to gather information and unbiased information to the competent authorities of the violation of human rights, provision of legal assistance to the victims and facilitate their reintegration into society.
The meeting with representatives of the Coalition was organized by the student social services and the Primary Trade Union Organization of LTSNU. At the beginning of the event, there was a presentation of the work of the Coalition of Social Organizations “Justice for Peace in Donbas.” Valery Novikov, the Chairman of the Luhansk Regional Human Rights Center “Alternative”, which is a part of the Coalition, told about the directions and principles of the organization and activities focused on documenting human rights violations in armed conflict as a condition of preventing impunity.
Denis Denisenko, the Deputy Chairman of the Luhansk Regional Human Rights Center “Alternative” told about the joining efforts of the public sector, law enforcement agencies, public authorities and local governments in the process of peace restoration in the entire territory of Ukraine.
He noted the need for cooperation and collaboration for the development and establishment of the democratic and legal society.
“Today was the first meeting with the students, as we had previously worked with law enforcement agencies. Human rights is the line that gives the opportunity for young people to understand the meaning of democracy, – the Chairman of the Lugansk Regional Human Rights Center “Alternative” V. Novikov mentioned.
At the end of the meeting, representatives of the Human Rights Coalition called on the students to cooperate, as it contributes to a more effective legal protection of persons and reparations for victims of human rights violations.
