Meeting of the Academic Council

On September 30, LTSNU held a regular meeting of the Academic Council.

Two main issues were discussed on the agenda:

• On the outcome of the examination (qualifying) commissions in the academic year 2015 – 2016 and features of the organization of educational activities in the academic year 2016 – 2017.
• On the results of the entrance campaign – 2016 and preparations for its implementation in 2017.

At the beginning of the meeting, the badge “Excellence in Education” was awarded to V.N. Shvyrka, as well as diplomas for significant progress in the organization and improvement of the educational process and personal contribution to the practical training of students were awarded to teachers and staff of LTSNU.

D.V. Uzhchenko made the report on the outcome of the examination (qualifying) commissions in the academic year 2015 – 2016 and features of the organization of educational activities in the academic year 2016 – 2017. Having heard and discussed the report of the Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work, the Academic Council mentioned that, in accordance with the schedules of the educational process in the academic year 2015 – 2016, were held winter and summer final attestations of graduates. The administrations of institutes and faculties answered the requirements for registration of the necessary documentation for final certification and timely and accurately prepared the package of documents for the production of diplomas.

A significant work was held for the purpose of effective organization of educational activities in the academic year 2016 – 2017. According to the recommendations by MES were developed curricula for all specialties of the enrollment 2016 of full-time and correspondence forms of training. The Teaching Department developed a methodical scheme for using the latest technologies of active interaction of teachers and students in the educational process.

The main positive feature of the next academic year in the educational process should be the full operationalization of the platform “Electronic University” that will stabilize the schedule with a wide use of online lectures and lead the organization of the distance and stationary training to a new level.

However, today some problems in the organization of the educational process require prompt solving: an insufficient number of places in hostels, which does not allow to allocate all students in Starobilsk; the irrational schedule of training sessions; insufficient use of methods of active interaction of teachers and students by the departments; low activity of some teachers on the distance study online.

A report on the results of the entrance campaign – 2016 and the preparations for its implementation in 2017 was made by Y.I. Yurkiv, N.Y. Matzai and I.A. Lysenko. Having heard and discussed the reports of the executive secretary of the admission committee, the head of the Preparatory Department and the educational center “Donbass-Ukraine”, and the head of the Marketing Department, Academic Council mentioned that the University and its structural subdivisions in general provided a satisfactory organization of enrollment at all education and qualification levels and forms of education in 2016.

The admission committee, the Preparatory Department, the Marketing Department, institutes, faculties, separate subdivisions performed corresponding advertising and vocational guidance work. They visited the district, town and village councils, educational departments, and educational institutions of various types and levels in Luhansk and Donetsk regions.

The advertising of the University was carried out through the media; there was created the counseling and educational center “Donbass-Ukraine” on the basis of the education department in Stanichno-Luhansky district; the advertising and professional work was conducted with soldiers of the Luhansk border detachment, regiment for special purposes and tactical groups.

The total volume of admission to the University with all the separate subdivisions and levels amounted to 3505 people, which is more than 884 people at the university and its separate subdivisions last year.

However, there were some factors that had hampered the success of the entrance campaign, including a new system of participation in the competition and the distribution of budget places, the invalidity provided by institutes and faculties of proposals in terms of the state order, the lack of targeted career guidance work with a contingent of students and late approval of the regulations on the activities of the educational centers “Donbass-Ukraine” at higher educational institutions.

In general, the entrance campaign – 2016 took place in an organized form, and conflict and appeals situations did not happen.

In addition, I.M. Karpenko and O.L. Karaman spoke at the meeting. They told about the features of enrollment in the Faculty of Foreign Languages and in the Education and Research Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology.

The Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work O.S. Menyailenko spoke about the development of the platform “Electronic University” and the prospects for its work.

The Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work D.V. Uzhchenko reported about the competitive affairs. A.V. Chesnokov ran on the post of Professor of the Department of Production Technology and Professional Education. The candidacy was chosen by the secret ballot.

Also the participants considered the issue of certification of doctoral students; the work of the grant holder of the President of Ukraine, approval of the master’s theses and recommendations to the print collections of research papers.
