Students-philologists visited Luhansk Regional Museum and met with a well-known local historian.
September 6-7, students of the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Social Communication visited Luhansk Regional Museum and met with a local historian of Starobilsk D. Luk’yanenko.
The historical memory is an important component of the educational process. Due to the legacy of the past, outstanding individuals, victories and defeats of predecessors the modern generation reproduce own historical experience that allows understanding their nature and spirituality.
The teachers of the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Social Communication always brought up in their students not only the professional qualities necessary for future work, but also the love for their homeland. That is why at the beginning of the academic year the excursion to the Regional Museum was organized for the first and second year students.
The Luhansk Regional Museum is not only historical and scientific institution, but also the cultural center of the region. It presents unique exhibits reflecting different stages of development of the cities of Luhansk and Starobilsk. Students are familiarized with the living conditions of different population groups in certain historical periods, observed flora and fauna of our region and learned a lot of new information about the legends and traditions related to the history of Starobilsk region.
The next day, the students met with the local historian Dmytro Luk’yanenko, who not only told about the history of our city, but also focused on the well-known personalities who had visited Starobilsk at different times. Among these figures were known the cossack hetman Dmytro “Baida” Vyshnevetskii, as well as the Ukrainian writer and poet-lyricist Volodymyr Sosyura. In addition, the local historian presented several exhibits, which are symbols of the long history of our region.
Many students of the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Social Communication live in other cities and even regions. Khrystyna Yakovleva is a student of the specialty “Ukrainian Language and Literature” and lives in Avdeevka, Donetsk region. She is here for the first time, but she has already managed to get used to the city and love it. “First Starobilsk made me different impressions. It is a small town, but at the same time, there are no fuss and noise. This allows you to admire the views, walk the streets and enjoy nature”, – Khrystyna said. During the tour, she learned that the first flight from the airport in Donetsk in 1934 was carried out exactly in Starobilsk.
The study of history is an essential component of identity and personal development of each student. The awareness of belonging to the establishment of its own people as a nation is an important sign of national consciousness and patriotism.
