Faculty of Foreign Languages

The Faculty of Foreign Languages has been training philologists for more than 20 years.

Training of philology specialists began in the 1960s as part of the Faculty of History and Philology. In 1992 on the basis of this Faculty there was established a structural subdivision “Faculty of Foreign Languages”. First foreign languages, which were taught at the Faculty, were Russian, English, German and French.

Since September 2015, the Faculty carried out educational activities on the basis of Poltava University of Economics and Trade, located at the address: 3, Kovalia Str., Poltava.

At the moment, the Faculty of Foreign Languages has a wide number of students and provides training for degree “Bachelor” in the following specialties: Language and Literature (English); Language and Literature (French and English); language and literature (German and English); Language and Literature (Spanish and English); Language and Literature (Russian and English); Philology: Language and Literature (Chinese and English); Language and Literature (Japanese and English); Language and Literature (English and Arabic). Students also have the opportunity to study at the educational and qualification level of Master. The quality of the educational process is provided by a combination of full-time education and e-learning, which opens up new opportunities for both students and teachers.

Currently, active work is held to attract foreigners to studying at the Faculty of Foreign Languages. One of the prerequisites for moving to Poltava was the need to create the conditions for a comfortable and fulfilling work and training of Ukrainian and foreign students.

The Foreign of Foreign Languages is proud of its graduates; among them are professionals, outstanding and respected person. Among the former students is the Dean of the FFL, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Pedagogy Department, Honored Professor of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko University Ivan Mykhailovych Karpenko. Also, among graduates of the FFL is the Doctor of Philological Sciences I.P. Zaytseva; PhD, Associate Professor N.L. Yugan.

Students of the Faculty of Foreign Languages have great opportunities for self-realization in a creative and scientific life of the subdivision. Among the outstanding scientific events of the academic year is the first webinar “LANGUAGE. LITERATURE. HISTORY. CULTURE. PROBLEMS OF LEARNING AND TEACHING” held together with teachers of Lanzhou Polytechnic University. In addition, in 2016 the International scientific-practical conference of teachers and students “Ukraine-China: Dialogue of Cultures. Actual Problems of Modern Chinese Studies”, International scientific-practical conference of teachers and students” Modern Oriental Tendencies” took place.

In March 2016, the final scientific conference of the All-Ukrainian competition of student’s scientific works on direction “Romano-Germanic Languages and Literature” was held on the basis of Kherson State University. The fourth year student of specialty “Spanish and English” Daria Grunenko won a prize III place, presenting the scientific work on the theme: “Peculiarities of Using Euphemisms in Modern Political Discourse.”

After completion of training, the Faculty graduates have opportunities for employment: secondary schools, gymnasiums, lyceums, colleges, chambers of commerce, publishing houses, media, travel agencies, joint enterprises and other institutions of international orientation.
