Shevchenko Days at the Primary Education Department
5.3.2026
As part of the celebration of Shevchenko Days on March 5, the Primary Education Department of the Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology held a thematic educational event for first-year students.
The event was dedicated to honoring the creative heritage of the outstanding Ukrainian poet, artist, thinker and spiritual symbol of the Ukrainian people – Taras Shevchenko.
The purpose of the event was to understand the significance of the work of the Great Kobzar for the formation of national consciousness and civic position of modern youth, as well as to actualize the spiritual and moral values that are affirmed in the poetic word of the artist.
During the meeting, students and teachers of the department recited lines from poems from the immortal collection “Kobzar”, which has become a symbol of Ukrainian spirituality and the struggle for freedom. Special attention was paid to the relevance of Shevchenko’s words in the conditions of modern social challenges. As a reminder of the poet’s spiritual testament to the Ukrainian people, the lines were heard:
“Love your Ukraine,
Love it… in times of fury,
In the last difficult minute
Pray to God for it.”
The participants of the event also joined in the discussion of the role of Taras Shevchenko’s work in the formation of national identity and the upbringing of the younger generation. The students expressed their own thoughts on the importance of the poet’s poetic heritage for future primary school teachers, because it is they who are called upon to convey to younger schoolchildren a love for the Ukrainian language, culture and literature.
Holding such thematic events contributes to the formation of spiritual culture, national consciousness and a value-based attitude towards the cultural heritage of the Ukrainian people in future teachers.
