Old School Strongman Open Baltic Cup

On February 21, the international tournament Old School Strongman Open Baltic Cup was held in Šiauliai (Republic of Lithuania), which was attended by athletes from different European countries.
The Ukrainian team worthily represented the country on the international level, demonstrating high results and winning prizes.
Among the winners and prize-winners are representatives of the educational community of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University and its structural divisions. Their achievements have become an example of combining academic activity and sports of the highest achievements.
Tetiana Davydenko — confident victory in triathlon
Tetiana Davydenko, a 1st year student majoring in “Secondary Education (Physical Culture)” of the Lysychansk Professional College, became the winner in the weight category up to 63 kg.
The athlete’s results:
- Log lift — 60 kg
- Zercher lift — 120 kg
- Deadlift — 150 kg
The sum of 330 kg provided her with 1st place in her weight category and 2nd place in the absolute standings — a significant international result for a young athlete.
Volodymyr Volodymyrovych Dubovoi — championship in the category up to 90 kg
Volodymyr Volodymyrovych Dubovoi — senior lecturer of the Department of Olympic and Professional Sports, Doctor of Philosophy — demonstrated convincing leadership in the weight category up to 90 kg.
His results:
- Log lift — 102.5 kg
- Zercher lift — 175 kg
- Deadlift — 245 kg
With a total of 522.5 kg, he took 1st place in the category, confirming the high level of training and professional skill.
Valerii Nadarovych Hazaiev — a record of Ukraine with 701 kg in total
Valerii Nadarovych Hazaiev — a teacher at the Department of Olympic and Professional Sports — demonstrated one of the most powerful results of the tournament.
In the weight category up to 120 kg, he recorded:
- Log lift — 140 kg
- Zercher lift — 240 kg
- Deadlift — 321 kg
The result in the deadlift became a record of Ukraine. The total of 701 kg brought the athlete 1st place in his weight category and 2nd place in the absolute standings.
The athletes were trained by Oleksandr Volodymyrovych Dubovoi, Dean of the Faculty of Health Care and Sports, who also acted as a team representative and the chief judge of the competition.
The performance in Šiauliai became convincing evidence of the effective interaction of educational units, the combination of scientific and methodological activities with the practice of high-performance sports, and the powerful human resources potential of the university community.
