Role of Vsevolod Pichuhin in the University Development

A huge role in the development of our university in the 60s and 70s of the last century was played by its rector Vsevolod Hrygorovych Pichuhin (23.02.1911–04.08.1991), who would have turned 115 on February 23, 2026.

This year, Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University – one of the oldest higher education institutions in Ukraine – celebrates its 105th birthday. Its history begins with the opening of the first higher educational institution in Donbas – Donetsk Higher Pedagogical Provincial Courses – on March 1, 1921. Today, it is a recognized leader of the national higher education system. However, the university would not be what it is without the contribution of those who created its history in different years.
