Strategic Meeting on the Development of Sports Education in Luhansk Region

The Dean of the Faculty of Health Care and Sports took part in a strategic meeting on the development of sports education in Luhansk region.
On January 10, 2026, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Serhii Tymofeiev held a working meeting with representatives of the Luhansk Regional State Administration and heads of sports institutions of the region. The main topic of the meeting was options for increasing the efficiency of the system of educating athletes in the Luhansk region, in particular the issues of staffing, preserving the network of sports institutions, participation of youth in sports programs and integration of educational and sports components for the comprehensive development of athletes in the region.
The Dean of the Faculty of Health Care and Sports of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University, Oleksandr Dubovoi, took an active part in this important discussion. He presented an initiative that could become a new powerful mechanism for interaction between education, sports schools and professional training of specialists: the creation of a single complex that would unite a sports boarding school, a school of higher sports skills and the Faculty of Health Care and Sports of LTSNU. According to him, such a structure will allow not only to improve the quality of athletes’ training, but also to better coordinate the educational and coaching process in the context of modern requirements for the development of sports.
This is an important proposal in view of current challenges, because today the Luhansk region lacks coaches with higher education, especially in rural areas, and the university community can become a bridge between theoretical training and practical education of athletes. Opening ways for practical participation of students in the educational environment of sports schools and combining the scientific and educational capabilities of LTSNU with the sports infrastructure of the region will contribute to the graduation of specialists with a high level of competence, which are needed both in the sports system and in youth policy.
It is important that Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University already has significant achievements in the field of physical education and sports: the university actively maintains contact with national teams, national-level athletes study and train in its ranks, and a base for scientific research in the fields of health and physical development is being formed. Oleksandr Dubovoi’s proposal can further strengthen the chain of “education – sports – community” and create open opportunities for students and youth of the region.
Following the meeting, the Luhansk Regional State Administration will form a package of proposals for submission to the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine for consideration, which can influence the development of sports policy at the national level and contribute to the implementation of comprehensive measures aimed at supporting youth and athletes.
Undoubtedly, the activity and professional position of Oleksandr Dubovoi strengthen the image of our university as a modern, socially responsible and promising higher education institution, capable not only of training specialists, but also of shaping the future of sports and health of Ukraine through practical cooperation with regional and state structures.
