University’s Scientific Successes – 2026: LTSNU Starts the Year with Victories

The beginning of 2026 for Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University was marked by significant achievements in the field of scientific activity.
The achievements confirm the high level of the university’s research potential, its integration into the national scientific space, and the practical significance of developments.
In accordance with the order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine dated January 9, 2026 No. 23 https://mon.gov.ua/npa/pro-zatverdzhennia-pereliku-proiektiv-fundamentalnykh-naukovykh-doslidzhen-prykl?v=69611cc35359a , a list of fundamental and applied research projects that passed the competitive selection for funding from the State Budget of Ukraine in 2026 was approved. Among the winners are two scientific teams from Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University, which is convincing evidence of the competitiveness of university science.
The winners of the competition of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine were the following scientific initiatives:
1.“Transformation of military experience into social leadership: an internationalized model of empowerment of veterans as agents of social change”
Head — Professor Vitalii Kurylo, total budget — UAH 1,196,800.
The project is aimed at forming new social models of integration of veterans into peaceful life, development of their leadership potential, active participation in public life and creation of mechanisms of social transformations in post-war society.
2. “Institutionalization of interaction between higher education institutions and territorial communities as a factor of restoration and preservation of human capital in conditions of martial law and post-war reconstruction of the country”
Head — Associate Professor Nadiia Vasynova, total budget — UAH 1,198,400.
The research is aimed at developing effective models of cooperation between universities and communities that will contribute to the restoration of regions, the preservation of human potential and the formation of sustainable socio-economic processes in the post-war period.
In addition to winning the grant competition, a significant achievement was the receipt of a patent for a utility model, the authors of which are:
V.O. Kolesnikov, V.V. Burdun, O.I. Balytskyi, M.R. Havryliuk, Ye.B. Kolesnikova.
Title of the development:
“Method for obtaining digital images and identifying linear dimensions of microstructures of ferritic-pearlite rotor steels on them”
Patent No. 161794, MPK G01B21/00, G01N15/0227; application No. u202400398; published on 07.01.2026 in bulletin No. 1/2026.
This innovative development has important applied significance for materials science, metallurgy and engineering diagnostics, which once again emphasizes the orientation of LTSNU towards creating scientific solutions that can work for the country’s economy.
The university’s plans include active participation in new national and international scientific competitions, expansion of grant activities, development of interuniversity consortia and strengthening of integration into the European research space.
Scientific successes of the beginning of 2026 are not only budgets, patents and orders. This is the result of daily hard work, intellectual courage and belief in the ability of science to change the country.
