Educational and Professional Meeting with a Practicing Teacher

On December 25, an educational and professional meeting of students and teachers with a practicing teacher – a university graduate, history teacher of Kyiv Lyceum No. 33 Mykhailo Vlaikov took place at the Faculty of Social and Humanitarian Sciences.

The meeting became an important platform for a professional conversation about the professional path of a modern teacher and the opportunities for implementation that university education opens up. It was especially valuable for the faculty and teachers to hear the story of the professional development of a university graduate, to see how university knowledge is implemented in real school work.

Mykhailo Valeriiovych spoke about his years of study at the university, his experience working at the Luhansk Regional Museum of Local Lore and the school of the city of Starobilsk, in particular, about working with different categories of students, including teenagers in difficult life circumstances. His story expressed the idea that a diploma of LTSNU is a key that opens many doors, but it depends on the graduate which path he will use and how he will realize his professional potential.

The speaker paid special attention to his further professional path – moving to Lviv, and later to Kyiv, where he became a teacher at the capital’s lyceum. Comparing the educational environment of different regions, Mykhailo Vlaikov noted that students in the capital are often distinguished by their confidence and wider access to extracurricular resources – museums, theaters, cultural events. At the same time, he emphasized the importance of an equally professional approach to teaching and sincere respect for children, regardless of the region in which they study.

Participants of the meeting took the opportunity to ask questions about their first experience of working at school; the relevance of knowledge gained in teaching methodology classes and during pedagogical practice; the characteristics of modern children; interaction with parents; about trust and professional distance in the work of a teacher.

Summing up the conversation, the participants repeatedly returned to the key idea: a teacher must respect the child, realize his purpose and feel an inner readiness and desire to work with children. This, along with professional knowledge, determines success and development in the profession.

Such meetings are an important component of the educational process, as they demonstrate to applicants the diversity of professional development paths, help them realize their own choice and responsibility for it, and also form a realistic and at the same time motivating vision of the teaching profession.
