The opera “Winter and Spring” is a fantastic story about how the seasons change. The harsh, grumbling Frost mercilessly drives away the sad, weeping Autumn. The beautiful Winter appears with her faithful servants Metelitsa and Ozheleddy. They brought with them magical winter holidays with their beautiful joys. Soon the Owl-prophet warns that it is time for Winter and her servants to flee, because birds are already flying – the first heralds of warmth. With ringing joyful freckles, the bright beauty Spring arrives. She brings with her the awakening of nature, love and joy to work.

The main idea of the opera is the victory of light over darkness and the flowering of new life-giving forces. The fairy-tale characters of the opera are living beings, they have bright character traits, which is why the fairy-tale and fantastic world of nature, filled with the working life of the people, their customs and rituals, comes to life and becomes real.
