Visit to the Pottery Capital of Ukraine

The staff and students of LTSNU visited the pottery capital of Ukraine.

On December 5, employees and students of the Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology of our University, at the invitation of the head of the Lubny branch of the Poltava regional organization of the Red Cross Society of Ukraine, made an exciting trip to Opishnia — the ancient and most famous pottery center of Ukraine. The trip was organized by the Poltava Red Cross Society of Ukraine on the occasion of Volunteer Day.

The participants of the excursion, together with members of the Lubny branch of the Red Cross Society of Ukraine, visited the Opishnia pottery market, where each product impressed with its symbolism, history and craftsmanship. Pots, jugs, bowls, mugs, decorative animal figurines — all this is created from local clay, which has become the hallmark of the entire region.

The guests not only got acquainted with the assortment, but also purchased ceramic souvenirs — small pieces of Opishnia culture.

Then the participants were convinced that Opishnia is a real open-air pottery museum. In every yard, on every street, an ancient tradition comes to life, and carved sculptures and painted tiles create a unique atmosphere. Here, every house, every site is a testament to the skill of generations.

A special part of the trip was a visit to the National Museum-Reserve of Ukrainian Pottery – a real pearl of Opishnia. The tour guide took the guests through the history of the museum’s creation, told about unique clay sculptures, ancient and modern products, and the traditions of passing down skills from generation to generation. The students learned about outstanding ceramists, creative schools, and innovations that combine ancient crafts with modern art.

As a token of gratitude for the informative excursion, warm atmosphere and inspiration, representatives of LTSNU left a sincere written review and a business card of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University in the guest book as a symbol of creative partnership and respect for the masters of Ukrainian pottery.

The next stage was a creative stop at the Opishnia artel, where the participants took part in a master class on sculpting clay toys.

The gentle clay, warm smiles of the masters and the cozy atmosphere of the workshop created a special space in which even those who had never worked with clay discovered unexpected creative abilities.

During the sculpting process, students and teachers felt how the history of the people, its symbolism and cultural memory come to life through the simple touch of clay.

The day ended with a delicious lunch in the Dykanskyi Kuren, where the participants shared their impressions and emotions from what they saw and created.

We express our sincere gratitude to the organizers of the trip and the rector of LTSNU Olena Karaman for the opportunity to visit Opishnia – one of the most famous centers of Ukrainian cultural identity and the pottery capital of our country.
