Japanese Fairy Tale Translation Contest at the Educational and Research Institute of Philology and Journalism

The Department of Literary Studies, Oriental Philology, and Translation is delighted to announce the results of the contest for the best translation of a Japanese fairy tale into Ukrainian. The competition was organized by the guarantor of the educational program “Japanese Language and Literature (including Translation), Second Foreign Language – English”, Yuliia Malakhova, for second-year students.

This contest became a true journey to the Land of the Rising Sun – the participants not only translated the text but also touched upon its spirit, philosophy, and beauty. The results are remarkable! We are sincerely pleased to see how diligently all contestants worked, and their teachers are proud of their students’ translations.

Spirit of Japan – Polina Neporada – 1st place

(awarded for the most faithful rendering of national color, traditions, and cultural context of the original)

Music of Words – Polina Ponyrko – 1st place

(awarded for the most harmonious rhythm, sound, and poetic language of the translation)

Faithfulness to the Spirit – Arina Sherstiuk – 1st place

(awarded for the most accurate reflection of the idea, mood, and philosophy of the fairy tale)

Living Translation – Olha Kurenia – 3rd place

(awarded for the most harmonious rhythm, sound, and poetic language of the translation)

Voice of the Fairy Tale – Olha Meshchaninova – 1st place

(awarded for the best reproduction of the author’s voice and style of the original narrative)
