July 28 — Day of Remembrance
28.7.2025
Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University honors the memory of those who gave their lives for the freedom, independence, and territorial integrity of Ukraine, finding themselves in cruel captivity of the enemy.
The University’s educators express deep gratitude and respect for the selflessness and courage of each defender, who, without breaking, stood firm in inhuman conditions.
The date of July 28 was not chosen by chance – it was on the night of July 29, 2022, as a result of a terrorist attack organized by Russian troops in temporarily occupied Olenivka, dozens of Ukrainian prisoners of war – defenders of Mariupol – died. This is one of the most cruel and cynical crimes committed against people who were already in captivity. This act of terror is a gross violation of international humanitarian law and an example of the total devaluation of human life by the aggressor.
We are obliged to preserve the memory of all defenders – military, volunteers, civilians, who died in enemy captivity.
To remember means to prevent a repetition.
The world must know. Ukraine remembers.
We will not forgive.
