Hryvnia Through the Prism of Time: a Journey into the History of Money in Ukraine
26.6.2025
Scientific and pedagogical staff of the Department of Finance, Accounting and Banking, together with students, joined a unique virtual tour of the History of Monetary Circulation of Ukraine: “Hryvnia: the History of Creation and Introduction into Circulation.”
The virtual tour was organized by the Money Museum Department of the National Bank of Ukraine. The event was conducted by Candidate of Historical Sciences Denys Tolochko, a true expert in the history of the national currency.
The virtual tour became a valuable source of new information for both teachers and students. During the event, participants learned about the key stages of the creation of the hryvnia, the features of the design of banknotes, the place of printing the first samples, the justification for the introduction of the new currency in 1996, as well as the creation of a full cycle of production of national money in Ukraine.
Special thanks to the organizers of the event – the Money Museum Department and personally to Denys Tolochko – for an extremely interesting presentation, rich in facts and illustrations. Such events are not only informative, but also practically useful: they contribute to improving the qualifications of teachers, expand the possibilities of preparing for lectures and seminars on financial literacy, the history of economic thought, the theory of money and related disciplines.
As a result of participation in the event, the scientific and pedagogical staff of the department received personalized certificates of advanced training, which indicates the constant desire of the team for professional development and the introduction of relevant knowledge into the educational process.
We are sincerely grateful to the organizers of the tour for the wonderful opportunity to join the study of the history of the Ukrainian hryvnia and increase the level of awareness of monetary circulation issues!
