EVENT “HISTORY OF LUHANSK REGION WITHOUT MYTHS”
23.6.2025
There are often lies told about Luhansk region. Some still believe that it is a “Russian region”, that everything here was built by Russians and that this land has supposedly always been part of the “Russian world”. But this is not true!
In fact, people have lived here since very ancient times. Archaeologists have found ancient settlements, burial grounds, and fortifications that are 1,000 years old or more.
During the time of Kievan Rus, these lands were important, albeit borderlands.
Various peoples lived here, including nomads. Later, it became part of the so-called Wild Field, dangerous but not empty.
Many cities in Luhansk Oblast arose as Cossack outposts.
Our conversation will focus on:
– what was on the territory of Luhansk Region before Kievan Rus;
– how Luhansk Region was part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Ruthenia, and Samogitia;
– how the Russian Empire “rewrote” the history of the region;
– who launched the industrialization of our region;
– how Luhansk Region continues to fight the Russian invasion.
Oleksandr Naboka, Head of the Department of History and Archaeology of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Publicist, Local History Scholar of Luhansk Region (Luhansk city), debunks lies and tells the truth.
