Meeting for the Future of Sports in Luhansk Region

A meeting for the future of sports in Luhansk region was held with the Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine.

On May 28, 2025, an important event took place for the sports community of Luhansk region – the director of the Educational and Research Institute of Education and Sports of LTSNU Oleksandr Dubovoi, together with the head of the Luhansk regional branch (branch) of the Center for Physical Education and Sports of Pupils and Students, the head of the Luhansk regional branch of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine Viktor Ostretsov, joined a working meeting with the Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Matvii Bidnyi.

The meeting took place as part of the minister’s working trip to the Dnipropetrovsk region. As part of the visit, he visited the Luhansk regional military administration, where he held a dialogue with the head of the region Oleksii Kharchenko and the heads of relocated sports institutions of Luhansk region. The main topic of discussion was the preservation, functioning and further development of the system of children’s and youth sports schools (DYUSSH) in conditions of temporary relocation.

The current challenges facing the region’s sports infrastructure require new approaches. Minister Matvii Bidnyi stressed that it is currently extremely difficult to implement all the requirements for staffing youth sports schools in relocated conditions. As an alternative, he proposed introducing a club system of sports education for internally displaced persons (IDPs), which would allow retaining coaching staff, developing talents, and ensuring the continuity of sports development.

The position of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University in this discussion was clearly presented by Oleksandr Dubovoi and Viktor Ostretsov. They emphasized that the university, having a powerful material and technical base and professional teaching staff, is ready to become an active participant in the formation of new models of youth sports training, as well as to provide a platform for educational and methodological support for coaches and athletes.

Oleksii Kharchenko, head of the Luhansk OVA, positively assessed the idea of creating clubs for the sports development of IDPs, but emphasized that this issue requires detailed study, legislative support, and financial resources.

The university community supports the integration of new solutions aimed at preserving human capital, sports traditions and the development of physical education, including through educational programs implemented at LTSNU.

Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University continues to be not only a center of educational progress, but also an active participant in shaping the future of sports in the face of the challenges of war and relocation.

Together – to new achievements!
