On May 26, the Educational and Research Institute of Philology and Journalism hosted an event dedicated to Philologist’s Day.
The Director of the Educational and Research Institute of Philology and Journalism, Viktoriia Dmytrenko, addressed the audience with a welcoming speech, emphasizing the kinship of philology and philosophy, calling philology a “double wisdom.”
The most sincere video greetings were sent by graduates of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University, who are now in different cities of Ukraine, in different countries of the world: Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, and the USA. In this difficult time, they did not betray their calling. Our graduates noted that philological education helped them find themselves in various areas of professional activity – from writing, mass media, psychology and social work to IT. etc.
All those present had the opportunity to talk to philologists, who told about why they chose this profession, about the path to the profession and their professional achievements.
Olena Ovcharenko, Assistant Professor of Academic Programs at Memorial University of Newfoundland (St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada), shared her experience working in the international educational space. Natalia Filonenko, Senior Research Fellow at the I. Krypiakevych Institute of Ukrainian Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, spoke about the peculiarities of working in a scientific institution, outlined promising areas of research in modern Ukrainian literature, and shared her vision of the mission of a philologist-scientist. Tamara Umanska, Ukrainian language and literature teacher at Kreminna Lyceum No. 5 of the Kreminna City Council of the Luhansk region, noted that the task of a philologist-educator is to “teach people to read by heart.” Yulia Lysiuk and Anastasia Litashova, who work in the Luhansk Regional Universal Scientific Library, spoke about the specifics and importance of the activities of a philologist-librarian and a cultural manager.
