Master Class on Ukrainian Sign Language
23.5.2025
Students of the Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology took part in a Master Class on Ukrainian Sign Language.
On May 23, students majoring in 231 “Social Work” under the educational program “Social Work. Social Pedagogy. Practical Psychology” took part in a master class on Ukrainian sign language, which was held by the director of the Khmelnytskyi Inclusive Resource Center No. 1, Olha RYBAK.
This event was made possible thanks to the IV All-Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Conference with International Participation “Professional Training of Social Sphere Specialists: Achievements, Problems, Prospects”, which took place on May 22-23, 2025 at Khmelnytskyi National University, co-organized by the Social Pedagogy Department of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University.
The master class was also held as part of the National Barrier-Free Week, which is an initiative within the framework of the implementation of the National Strategy for Creating a Barrier-Free Space by 2030, in accordance with the action plan for 2025–2026.
The participants of the master class had the opportunity not only to get acquainted with the basic concepts of Ukrainian Sign Language, but also to practically consolidate communication skills using gestures. The atmosphere of mutual understanding, openness and support contributed to the awareness of the importance of language inclusion as a component of social work.
The knowledge and experience gained made a significant contribution to the formation of barrier-free thinking of future social professionals, because mastery of sign language is not only about communication, but also about respect for the rights and dignity of every person.
The event became a vivid example of how practical initiatives can bring society closer to true inclusion, where everyone has equal opportunities for communication, development and self-realization.
