Museum as an Educational Space
22.5.2025
Yulia Tsykulova held an open lecture for students of the Educational and Research Institute of Social and Humanitarian Sciences “Museum as an Educational Space. Cooperation between LTSNU and LRMLL”.
On May 20, 2025, a meaningful lecture on the topic “Museum as an Educational Space. Cooperation between LTSNU and LRMLL” was held for third-year students majoring in “Secondary Education (History)” within the educational component “Theory and Methods of Teaching History at School”. Students of other courses and specialties of the Educational and Research Institute of Social and Humanitarian Sciences also joined the event, which indicates a wide interest in the topic, its interdisciplinary significance and relevance for all educational programs.
The invited speaker was Yulia Tsykulova, head of the sector of late medieval and modern history of the Luhansk Regional Museum of Local Lore.
Ms. Yulia shared her own professional history, which began with her studies at Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University, which unites her with many colleagues from the museum. She spoke about the fate of the institution during the war: partial evacuation, resumption of work in Lviv at the “Territory of Terror” museum in April 2022, and later relocation to Kyiv, where the museum now operates on the basis of the “My Luhansk Region” humanitarian hub.
The lecture covered the areas of the museum’s post-war activities: creating traveling exhibitions, implementing projects with international partners, documenting crimes against cultural heritage, and information work on social networks. In particular, the project was about such projects as “Doomed to Win,” “Point on the Map,” “Wounded Culture,” and “Revived in Times of War.”
The speaker focused on museum pedagogy, an important area of the institution’s work. The lecturer shared her experience in conducting interactive events for schoolchildren and higher education students: from watching documentaries with subsequent discussion to theatrical excursions and master classes. Ms. Yulia emphasized that the museum is not only a keeper of memory, but also a powerful educational platform capable of forming the historical consciousness of young people.
Concluding the meeting, Ms. Yulia Tsykulova emphasized the importance of cooperation between the Luhansk Regional Museum of Local Lore and Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University: scientific events, joint projects, participation of applicants in cultural life and internships – all this is an integral part of the partnership that continues even in the most difficult times.
We sincerely thank Ms. Yulia for her meaningful story, inspiration and example of resilience in wartime. We hope for further meetings and deepening cooperation!
