Participation in the Student Scientific and Practical Conference

The students of the Educational and Research Institute of Philology and Journalism and teachers of the Ukrainian Language Department took part in the All-Ukrainian Student Scientific and Practical Conference (Rivne).

On May 14, students from the Educational and Research Institute of Philology and Journalism and their academic supervisors from the Ukrainian Language Department  joined the All-Ukrainian Student Scientific and Practical Conference “Current Problems of Modern Philology and Linguistics”. The conference was organized by the Student Scientific Society “Poshuk”, the Departments of Foreign Languages, Romance-Germanic Philology, Ukrainian Language and Literature, and the Faculty of History and Philology of the Stepan Demyanchuk International University of Economics and Humanities.

The welcoming remarks of Natalia Medynska, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor of the Department of Ukrainian Language and Literature, Vice-Rector for Scientific Work of the Stepan Demianchuk International University of Economics and Humanities, and Tamila Gruba, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Dean of the Faculty of History and Philology of the Stepan Demianchuk International University of Economics and Humanities, set the conference participants up for fruitful work and supported young scientists in presenting their own research on topical issues of modern Ukrainian and foreign philology and linguistics.

The friendly atmosphere of the conference contributed to the successful performance in the section “Language as a Factor in National Identification” by Ivanna Mikhno, a student of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University, who is studying the educational program “Secondary Education (Language and Foreign Literature (English))” with a specialization in “Secondary Education (English Language and Foreign Literature)”. Under the scientific supervision of Margarita Kravchenko, an associate professor at the Department of Ukrainian Language, the first-year student presented the thesis of her research “Means of Oral Communication in Ukrainian and English”, which she carried out in parallel with studying the educational component “Oral and Written Communication and Rhetoric in the Professional Activity of a Teacher”.

Ivanna Mikhno was able to select influential arguments to convince the audience that “knowledge of the means of oral communication, in particular emotional expressions, intonation, hints, physical distance, facial expressions and gestures helps to avoid misunderstandings, promotes effective interaction between Ukrainians and English in the conditions of a globalized world”.

Scientific research of students majoring in “Secondary Education (Ukrainian Language and Literature)” of our university will be presented in the collection of conference materials.

We express our sincere gratitude to the organizers of the conference for the opportunity for young researchers to present their scientific achievements. We wish creative success and further scientific cooperation to all those involved in research in the field of philology and linguodidactics!
